CANDICE

UNLOCKING MY CREATIVITY

Hey everyone, my name is Candice, and I'm excited to share with you how DramaWay Productions has enabled me to gain valuable life skills and make a positive impact in my community. I've been a part of DramaWay since 2001. As a long-time performer and advocate, I can confidently say that I love being a part of DramaWay Productions. Being a part of DramaWay has given me the confidence to express myself and showcase my talents on stage.

From public speaking to advocacy, DramaWay has helped me become a more confident and independent individual. I've learned valuable communication skills and gained the self-assurance to advocate for myself and others. I feel more empowered to speak up for what I believe in and take charge of my own life. DramaWay has provided me with a supportive environment where I can thrive as a performer and advocate.

In addition to my involvement with DramaWay, I contribute to my community as a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough and inspire others through my connection with DramaWay. Volunteering with young, impressionable toddlers has allowed me to be more creative and confident as a performer. I have even received quite a few awards for my volunteer work across the GTA.  I have received the Ken “Sam” Samler Award from the Self-Advocates Council and I received a Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011. I also received a certificate back in 2009 to 2011 from Community Living Toronto for helping out with the Self Advocate Council and I also received a Volunteer Appreciation Award certificate from Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough back in 2018. I'm grateful for the opportunities and support I've received through DramaWay. I have also been awarded medals back in 1998- 2001 from Variety Village and I received two trophies in 1999 and 2000 for participating in the police games in Durham Region.

Not only do I get to be creative with my DramaWay Community, I also find time to do original creative writing, storytelling and I create my own original visual art projects. I enjoyed studying art at DramaWay in their summer programs and year-round Visual Art program alongside the talented Gerald Patrick Fantone. This led me to find one of my passions which is creating inclusive and educational books and stories for young children.

Thanks to Danielle and her Team at DramaWay, I have also had the opportunity to meet public figures such as hosts, Jessi Cruickshank, Shahir Massoud, Andrea Bain & Steven Sabados through DramaWay events. I also took part in an inclusive fashion show with a few other DramaWay Performers alongside Jessi and Shahir on CBC’s “The Goods”. I even gained onset experience thanks to more referrals from DramaWay to be a movie extra on the movie called “Tru Confessions” which you can find on Disney Plus.
