BEYOND THE CURTAINS

ANDREW H.

COMMUNITY & CONNECTION

Hi there, it's Andrew H. here, and I'm excited to share with you how DramaWay Productions has been a wonderful part of my life for well over the past 8 years now. It’s been a safe, friendly, and inclusive space that has let me develop my acting and public speaking skills. My fellow actors have definitely inspired me as well along the way. Each term and new year brings an exciting adventure, and I always look forward to connecting with my DramaWay community every week. Their programs have played a huge role in boosting my confidence while also giving me lots of opportunities for leadership roles during class time and performances. Whether it was attending their arts camps or their Theatre programs, the DramaWay environment has consistently made me feel supported and confident to develop my advocacy skills  even far beyond the stage.

Outside of DramaWay, I'm actively involved in my community. I participate in Bocce with Cruisers Sports, which is super fun! I am also taking two college courses through Seneca College and Humber College, and recently I found out that I’ve been accepted into Humber's Radio Broadcasting program for the fall of 2024. I couldn't be more excited to be following in the footsteps of amazing radio personalities like Roz Weston of the Roz and Mocha Show.

I feel like the skills I’ve learned at DramaWay have helped me so much in my involvement in the community. All the activities, games, and rehearsals in Theatre classes have made me feel confident in who I am. I am now more independent, and their classes have definitely made me a stronger self-advocate. I also feel like the teamwork we build in class and during our exciting Annual Arts Showcase events have taught me how to encourage and support other people as well. Having such a strong support system makes me feel like I can take risks and try new things all the time. Like when I played the role of Miss Hannigan in our “Hopeful Hearts” production at the RBC Theatre back in the day! It was a risk, but DramaWay made me feel brave enough to try it and of course, the audience loved it. I was however happy to give up my props for Miss Hannegan's character - the flask and bra!

DramaWay has always been more than just a theatre program for me; it's been a supportive community where I've been able to grow, learn, and have fun with friends. I'm grateful for the opportunities that Danielle and her DramaWay Team have provided me with, and I know that the skills I’ve learned will continue to support me in all my future adventures, like my upcoming Radio Broadcasting studies! Keep tuning in and one day, you’ll not only hear stuff about Taylor Swift on the radio, but you’ll recognize my wonderful voice too. Thank you DramaWay!

Thanks for reading my story, and if you’d like to support DramaWay programming and our upcoming Showcase, please GIVE TODAY!
