Hey there, everyone! My name is Aldene, and I've been part of DramaWay Productions for an incredible 23 years!
DramaWay has made a big difference in my life. It has helped me so much by offering me compassion and support over the years, while also boosting my confidence level. Being a part of the DramaWay programs has shown me how it’s possible to have fun in so many different ways, and it’s really shown me how powerful it is to think positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts. We are always celebrating each other’s successes and strengths together in the DramaWay groups.
Along with helping build my confidence level, DramaWay has also helped me to find a job! Through DramaWay, I was connected to OWLware Ltd.’s Food Services and Hospitality program, where I learned kitchen skills and food prep skills. Upon graduating from the program, I was able to get a paid job working in a bakery! Having a sense of independence and being able to contribute to my community means a lot to me. The skills I've learned at DramaWay have definitely come in handy outside of class. I've learned how to work well with others, be a team player, and make lasting friendships. I really value all my friendships with the other actors, facilitators and volunteers at DramaWay.
DramaWay has also gifted me with so many connections in the community. Thanks to them, I even had the opportunity to meet the powerhouse, Jessi Cruickshank and ETalk and I also appeared on CBC Toronto The Goods for their inclusive fashion show. I’ve tried out many programs across the GTA whether it’s college or other private programs, but I always keep coming back to DramaWay, as they accept me for who I am, they care, and they are like my second family!
One of the best parts about DramaWay is that we all work together towards our Annual Showcase event in June. We work so hard rehearsing and preparing for the final event. We all work together as a team to make sure we put on the best show we can! In the past I’ve played the roles of Coco, Lady Gaga, the Giving Tree, and a member of the Oz Crew, among others, and this year I will be starring in the role of the Mayor, in our superhero-inspired Production.
